At Parker Payless Liquors we taste thousands of wines a year in hopes of handpicking the greatest selection we can for our customers. Each member of our wine staff has carefully selected six of their favorite wines to bring you a fresh assortment of Staff Picks. Set up at the front of the store by the wine office, you can now check out what our staff is “crushing on.”
Here are my personal picks:
2015 Maximin Grünhäuser Riesling Trocken 750ml $22.99
Fresh and bright with a cascade of green apple and grapefruit. The palate is dry and elegantly balanced. Try this with Chinese Chicken Salad.
2016 Greywacke Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough New Zealand 750ml $24.99
This wine has consistently been my favorite Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand. The nose is beautiful, with white peach, nectarine, lemon zest and cantaloupe melon. The mouthfeel is perfectly balanced, the fruit intertwined with a hint of herbs on the bright juicy finish. This is perfect with fish or chicken dishes.
2016 Saint Cosme Cotes-du-Rhone 750ml $15.99-Best Buy: $13.99
The Barruol family crafts some of the Rhone Valley’s most exciting wines. This is a staff favorite every vintage. 100% Syrah shows smoky cherry, sandlewood, violet pastille and black pepper. Perfect for grilled meats. A total bargain!
2014 Selene Napa Valley Merlot Frediani Vineyard 750ml $34.99
This here is the wine to pour for your friends who say “I don’t like Merlot”. Calistoga is the warmest region in Northern Napa Valley. Blackberry, dark plum, caramel and bakers chocolate galore! The mouthfeel is rich, and this would be perfect with lamb, steak or roast chicken.
2012 Clarendelle Bordeaux 750ml $18.99
The owners of First Growth Haut Brion also make this wonderful and affordable everyday drinker. Inspired by one of the world’s greatest red wines, this impresses You with its finesse, garnet color and amazing mouthfeel for a wine under $20. 57% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 13% Cabernet Franc.
2014 Hook & Ladder Los Amigos Ranch Chalk Hill Cabernet Sauvignon 750ml $22.99
Cecil DeLoach made world class wines while he owned his namesake winery. After selling that brand, he started this new venture. This wine is dark and brooding single vineyard Sonoma Cabernet Sauvignon. Raspberry, cherry, spice notes and a hint of oak on the nose. The mouthfeel is rich and round. The wine drinks as well as others at three times the price! Try this with Filet Mignon or Lamb Chops.
